Ninjato

The Ninjato is a Japanese sword with a straight blade of about 50 cm. Ninjato was used by ninjas (shinobi) in Japan. To make it easier for ninjas to move around and fight in close quarters, the Ninjato was created, as the Katana was too long and too restrictive for ninjas.

The Ninjato evolved totally differently from the Katana, whether it was in its form, its forging or even the respect that ninjas had for this weapon. We know that the samurai brought a lot of respect and value to their katanas, but the ninja saw their weapon as a tool and not as a spiritual weapon.

The Ninjato can be recognized in several ways:

• A straight blade with a very geometric point.
• A guard (Tsuba) often square. Sometimes the sword has no Tsuba.
• A pointed scabbard (Saya) to be able to stick it in the ground if needed.
• A long handle (Tsuka) for a better balance, but also to hide objects.
