The Wakizashi is a short sword whose size is generally between 12 and 12 inches. It was worn in the obi belt, if it was worn with the Katana it was called the daisho set. The Wakizashi became very popular, because the working classes were not allowed to use the Katana, so they turned to buying a Wakizashi.
The Wakizashi allowed for easy close combat and one-handed handling. To train in handling, samurai could use the Bokken or practice the Tameshigiri cut.
